Trivia Night at ASC!!

Compete in ASC's Trivia Night's for a FREE DAYTONA TRIP. The rules are as follows...

ArtStreet Café will be hosting three trivia nights throughout the months of February and March. There will be 2 rounds each night consisting of 20 questions each. The winning team of each round will receive their choice of a free Pita Pizza or a free Lettuce Wrap. There will be free samples distributed throughout the night, as well as bonus question giveaways. Each correct answer will award your team one point. The team with the most points at the end of all three trivia nights will be rewarded with a FREE TRIP TO DAYTONA. Therefore, the more trivia nights your group attends the better chance you have at the free trip. Your team can join the point-based competition for a free trip at any point, but it is advised to attend all three nights and all six rounds if possible. Teams can consist of 3-5 students. Each round your team wishes to participate in must be played by at least 3 members of your team for your points to be considered valid. If we see anyone texting (or the like) during a round, we will collect your phone/iPod until the end of the round. We apologize for being so harsh, but it is necessary for chances to remain fair across the board. Unfortunately, since we only have one trip to give away, the winning team must decide which of their members is most worthy…we will leave this task up to you. The Trivia Nights will run from 9-11pm. If you plan on participating, be there no later than 9pm because the first round will begin promptly at 9. The second will most likely begin around 10.

Pita Pizzas

That’s right; ArtStreet is now serving pita pizzas in addition to their already outstanding menu. Served with a free drink from 3-6 and 9-midnight, they are the perfect dinner or late night snack. Named after music legends like Paul McCartney and Led Zeppelin, it is impossible for these pies to disappoint.

The Moore

This Panini artist’s name is Julie Anton, a senior Entrepreneurship and Leadership double major from Arlington, Texas. She is a big fan of spice, paninis, and, of course, ArtStreet Café. Julie is hoping to go to culinary school in either Chicago or Napa Valley next year, so she is very excited to have The Moore featured on the ASC menu. This past summer during a summer of service through the Fitz Center, she worked at a homeless shelter in Dayton. This fueled her passion for the homeless and artist Denver Moore from Fort Worth, Texas. Moore was a former modern day slave and homeless man who survived to share his art with others. You can read more about him and his two mentors in the book, Same Kind of Different As Me.

Joseph Nawahi was one of the very few native Hawaiians attracted to painting and drawing prior to the twentieth century and his paintings are almost the only native works to have survived. Born in Puna on the island of Hawaii, Nawahi became a respected lawyer and politician and before the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893, was a member of Queen Liliuokalani's cabinet! Nawahi is best known for his splendid Hawaiian landscapes and captivating realist images of Hawaiin volcanoes. A total Renaissance man, Nawahi has been described as Hawaii’s “Ben Franklin” in his importance to their history. With oil paint and an easel, Nawahi painted his fame right into our own Art Street Café- with the newest addition to our Panini menu: The Nawahi, in honor of this talented, Hawaiin artist.

FRIDA KAHLO (1907-1954)
Mexican Painter

Kahlo was one of four daughters born to a Hungarian-Jewish father and a Spanish and Mexican Indian mother. After surviving polio, Kahlo entered a premedical school at the age of fifteen. However, her plans of working in the medical field ended three years later after becoming seriously injured in a bus accident three years. Kahlo suffered from injuries in her back, collarbone, ribs, pelvis, shoulder, and feet, which resulted in spending over a year in bed and over 30 operations. Kahlo suffered from the pain for the remainder of her life and died from complications when she was 47 years old.
Frida started her painting career with oils. Her paintings consisted of mostly self-portraits and still lifes and were filled with bright colors and flattened forms of the Mexican folk art that she loved.
