ArtStreet Cafe Manager Profile: Kelsie Noe

In our final interview, the ArtStreet Scene ate an early lunch this afternoon with Human Resources Director, Kelsie Noe. This junior photography and public relations major from Mansfield, Ohio, insisted that we saved the best interview for last.

AS: Good afternoon, Kelsie. Thank you for meeting with us. Can you please describe what you do as the Human Resources Director?

KN: I am in charge of scheduling, hiring, firing, training, conducting evaluations, managing payroll, and building employee morale. Besides that, I design new tee-shirts and judge panini creation contests.

AS: With over 40 employees working at ArtStreet Cafe, I am sure you have a lot of great memories. Can you please share one of them?

KN: In all honesty, I cannot pick one favorite memory or experience. Every time I visit the cafe, there is a new memory; however, my welcoming last April was pretty awesome. It felt like I had 40 new best friends over night!

AS: That sounds incredible. What was your first cafe experience like?

KN: I met with Mel Peters, the former President of ArtStreet Cafe, to learn more about the cafe before management interviews. At the time, I was so excited with the atmosphere that I cannot even remember what I ordered!

AS: Surely, you can remember your favorite thing to order now, right?

KN: Actually, I have a tendency to order the same item for about two months, and then I move on to something else for the next two months. I'm currently obsessed with a turkey, bacon, lettuce, cucumber, and sig sauce pita. It's been about two and a half months now, and I eat it 3 times a week.

AS: What advice would you give to a new ArtStreet Cafe customer?

KN: Ask our employees for sandwich ideas, if you cannot find anything on the menu that sounds just right. We are very creative with our products. Please try a black and white cookie, too! They are better than the other desserts, in my opinion.

AS: It sounds like you really enjoy ArtStreet Cafe. Try to summarize all of this happiness into one sentence.

KN: ArtStreet Cafe is so great not only because of the amazing food, but because each panini is grilled with lots of love.

AS: Beautiful words, Kelsie. Thank you for your time this afternoon.

ArtStreet Cafe Manager Profile: Brad Borchers

Earlier this morning, the ArtStreet Scene caught up with the Financial Manager of ArtStreet Cafe, Brad Borchers. Brad, a sophomore, accounting and operations management major from Minster, Ohio, was excited for his interview and also excited for the Heavyweight breakfast sandwich he ordered.

AS: Good morning, Brad. You seem to really be enjoying that Heavyweight bagel sandwich. Is this your favorite item at ArtStreet Cafe?

BB: No, the Rothko BBQ quesadilla is my favorite.

AS: Can you please describe some of your responsibilities as the financial manager?

BB: I pay invoices from vendors 2 to 3 times a week, in addition to auditing general ledgers from other FE divisions.

AS: That sounds like a lot of challenging work. As you enter your third year working at ArtStreet Cafe, what have you learned about hard work?

BB: I started working here early freshmen year, and on my very first shift, Liz C. told me to take out the trash. This wasn't a big deal, but I quickly discovered it was going to be my regular job when I came into work. It eventually became a little inside joke between us.

AS: It sounds like you have some strong relationships with your co-workers. What else can you say about them?

BB: I really enjoy getting to know the people that work here and develop relationships with them. When I come into work, I don't really feel like I am working because I am having so much fun!

AS: Summarize why you enjoy ArtStreet Cafe in three words.

BB: The people, the food, and the culture.

AS: Final question, what would you recommend a first-time visitor to order?

BB: The Dali without green peppers.

AS: Thank you very much, Brad. Have a great afternoon.

Our final manager profile with Kelsie Noe will be uploaded later this afternoon. Thanks for reading.

ArtStreet Cafe Manager Profile: Amanda Pfriem

Good morning, ArtStreet Scene. Moments ago, sophomore Amanda Pfriem, ArtStreet Cafe's Director of Marketing, was fortunate enough to join us for a cup of fresh coffee. This marketing and German student from Strongsville, Ohio, was truly thrilled to be a part of this blog.

AS: Okay, Amanda. Right off the bat: what is your favorite item to order here?

AP: It's a tie between the O'Keeffe Pita, the Man Ray, and, of course, rainbow cookies!

AS: All three are delicious options. Can you please describe your responsibilities as Director of Marketing?

AP: I promote the cafe and, in doing so, continue to strengthen current relationships as well as create new bonds with employees, customers, and the university as a whole.

AS: Since you are creating bonds with new customers, what advice would you give to a student on their first visit to ArtStreet Cafe?

AP: Be adventurous! I like pretty much everything we offer. If you're deciding between a few options, why not come back and try them all?!

AS: Please describe how "adventurous" your first ArtStreet Cafe experience was.

AP: Basically, it was love at first sight. My second day on campus as a freshman, I ordered a Funky Chicken on a bagel, as recommend by my brother, and I enjoyed it until the very last bite.

AS: Was your first experience with the cafe also your favorite one?

AP: I don't have a favorite experience in particular. I simply love making great food surrounded by awesome people!

AS: ArtStreet Cafe in one sentence. Go!

AP: With such a welcoming, unique atmosphere, amazing people, and delicious food, how could you not love ASC?

AS: Thank you, Amanda, for your time and enthusiasm.

Three manager profiles down, and two to go. Join us next week for interviews with Kelsie Noe and Brad Borches.

ArtStreet Cafe Manager Profile: Steve Cabanski

The ArtStreet Scene caught up with ArtStreet Cafe's General Manager Steve Cabanski this afternoon. Over a cup of chicken and dumpling soup (Steve's favorite item at the cafe), we discussed his role as General Manager.

AS: Thanks for talking with us, Steve. Can you tell our readers a little background information about yourself?

SC: I am a junior, entrepreneurship and management major from Toledo, Ohio.

AS: This will be your second year as the ArtStreet Cafe General Manager. Can you describe what you actually do?

SC: I am responsible for all of preventative maintenance, ensuring we pass all health inspections, keeping up with the heath standards, ordering all of the cafe's products and supplies, overseeing catering, and managing our product inventory.

AS: Wow, it sounds like you have your hands full. How did you get involved with ArtStreet Cafe in the first place?

SC: My freshman year, my brother Chris (ASC accountant at the time) brought me in to have lunch. I ordered The Beast, and a few days later applied for a job.

AS: Since you will be entering your fourth year with the cafe next semester, what has been your favorite memory?

SC: Definitely the Cabrewing Trip in which I came back with one shoe and no shirt.

AS: (Laughing) That sounded like a fun trip. Thank you for your time, Steve. Best of luck in the upcoming year.

Stay tuned for the next interview in which the ArtStreet Scene sits down with the Director of Marketing: Amanda Pfriem.

ArtStreet Cafe Manager Profile: Joe Guy

Our first manager profile will feature the current president of ArtStreet Cafe: Joe Guy. Joe is a sophomore International Business and Operations Management major from Dayton, Ohio. The ArtStreet Scene caught up with Joe earlier today amidst the dreary weather.

AS: Thanks for allowing us to interview you this morning Joe, we really appreciate it. Can you please describe your responsibilities as the president of ArtStreet Cafe?

JG: As President, I supervise the management team. I oversee all functions of the business including: daily operations, marketing and brand development, catering, entertainment events, and the relationship between the cafe and the rest of the ArtStreet Complex. Also, I work with the management team to develop a divisional strategy for the cafe and create a budget with guidance from the VP of Accounting and CFO.

AS: I bet all that work makes you hungry. What is your favorite thing to order at ArtStreet Cafe?

JG: The Denver Scrambler on a spinach wrap! It is the perfect mix of egg, pepper jack cheese, veggies, and a little Mexican spice to jump-start my day.

AS: That sounds delicious. What would you consider to be your favorite ArtStreet Cafe experience?

JG: St. Patty's Day 2009! The cafe set an all-time daily sales record of $2,071.55! So sweet.

AS: Congratulations to you and your team for that success! For those of us that were not able to enjoy St. Patrick's Day at ArtStreet Cafe, what advice would you give to hungry students looking for a meal?

JG: Don't be afraid to ask questions. Our staff is really knowledgeable about our menu items and will help you to order something that will satisfy your hunger or quench your thirst. Take a few friends with you and eat together! After you enjoy a delicious meal, take a break from the stress of classes, projects, and papers, enjoy some time with your friends by playing a board game, or checking out some of the artwork in the cafe and displays in Studio D.

AS: Great advice, Joe, but can you summarize why ArtStreet Cafe is great in 140 characters or less? (Twitter-style).

JG: The great food, great people, and great atmosphere create a truly unique experience on campus.

AS: Thank you, Joe. Again, we appreciate your time here at The ArtStreet Scene, and we look forward to you and your management team doing great things in the future!
